Kinds Of Braces

There are different kinds of braces. Braces are devices which are used to align or straighten an individual’s teeth setting, thereby leading to an overall improvement of dental health. The working of the braces is a very interesting concept. Over time, the braces apply pressure on the teeth, moving the teeth in a particular direction. With this, the bones change their shapes. The bands of the braces are made from stainless steel that is cemented to the teeth. A new innovation called the ‘mini-braces’ are doing the trends in today’s world. Braces are usually used for 1-3 years. These are much smaller than the traditional braces.
There are many kinds of braces available today. The first type and the most common one is the traditional metal wired braces. This is made from stainless steel and titanium. These braces require ties or brackets glued to the teeth to hold them in place. It might be a little irritating to the gums on applying these braces, but eventually the patients get used to this. Metal braces also help the cheeks and gums become strong and adapt.

A lot of people are not amused by the idea of holding braces over their teeth. In such a case, Ceramic braces are another kind of braces. These are more expensive than metal braces and are not as strong as them, but they look great! They are less visible than the metal braces due to their transparent parts and are suitable for light functions of straightening the teeth.
Invisalign braces are a step above the ceramic braces. This kind of braces is virtually invisible. These can be taken off while brushing or eating. The biggest advantage of invisalign braces is their cosmetic value! You can get the benefit of straight and perfect teeth setting, without having to flaunt the metallic braces. However, since these can be taken out at the will of the individuals, invisalign braces may be less effective than the metallic ones.

Lingual braces are another kind of braces which are attached to the rear side of the teeth so that they are not visible when the individual smiles. However, lingual braces are more difficult to attach to the teeth and can cause some discomfort.
Damon braces are a relatively new concept in the study of orthodontics. Unlike the traditional metallic braces, the wires used in Damon braces do not have elastics. Instead, it forms a passive self-litigation system, using a sliding mechanism and allows free movement. Thereby it abolishes the need for the tightening of the wires by the dentists. The wires are made from copper, nickel and titanium alloy. This kind of braces is suitable for both, kids and adults.

The newest technology in orthodontics is the smart bracket braces! Elastic ligatures hold the brackets to the wires. These ligatures create pressure and friction. These braces are available in clear or ceramic form. Some of the smart bracket braces have sensors in the brackets to send feedback to the microchip!

Different kinds of braces are useful in straightening or aligning your teeth. With more innovative technology, these do not cause any discomfort and are kept on for shorter time spans.
