There are many different kinds of cells in the human body. Each cell has a particular purpose and all these cells when combined, makes up the human body. The purpose of cells in the body differ depending on the location those cells are.
Here different kinds of cells in the human body are discussed:
1. Skin Cells:
Biologists call the skin cells epithelial cells. These cells are reproduced more often than other kinds of cells in the human body. Their main work is to protect the internal parts of the body from the external environment. They also play a very important role which is controlling the temperature of the body. The basic structure of the skin cells is that they are flat and square in build.
Human skin has three parts which are the dermis which has nerve endings and air follicles and glands, epidermis which is the external part of the skin and hypodermis.
2. Nerve Cells:
Nerve cells are the basic units of the nervous system. They use electrical signals and chemicals to pass information from all the body to the brain. Nerve cells have some unique subcategories which are sensory nerve cells, motor neurons.
3. Sex Cells:
They are also called Gametes; they are of two types; eggs and sperm. They are produced inside the testes ovaries. These kinds of cells in human body are the basis of reproduction. Sperm comes from the male and the eggs are from a female.
4. Muscle Cells:
Muscles cells are made up of thin round fiber. Muscle cells work according to the functions of the part of the body it is in. Three common types of muscle cells are in humans; cardiac, skeletal and smooth muscle. Skeletal muscles are attached to bones in order to help in movement. Cardiac muscles work in the heart to facilitate pumping. The smooth muscles are found in other body parts like the blood vessels.
5. Stem Cells:
Examples of this kind of cells in human body are the blood cells. These are cells that can keep on changing and reproduce to form cells that may be different form the original cells. Scientists think that they might use this characteristic of stem cells in future to cure leukemia.
6. Bone Cells:
This is what gives the body of humans a structure. They are held together by calcium so that is why they are hard.
7. Curtilage Cells:
They are also hard cells like the bone cells but they are little bit tender as they are not held together by calcium.
8. Blood Cells:
These are mobile cells and they never stay in one place. They move inside the blood. Examples are the red and the white blood cells.
9. Adipose Cells:
These are the cells that are used to store fat. They are also used to reduce friction in the body.
10. Secretory cells:
These are cells that secret what is to be used or expelled from the body. They form the basic part of organs like kidneys and pancreas.
All the parts of the human body are subject to the kinds of cells they are made up of.
